Staff Nurse

Position: Staff Nurse

Unit: Health and Wellness Center (HWC)

Reports to: Superintendent of Nurse

Start Date: As soon as possible

Asian University for Women (AUW), an independent international university with students drawn from 19 countries across Asia and Middle East with age range between 17-35 years, is looking for a female candidate with degree in nursing and at least two years of experience in nursing for the position of Staff Nurse. Staff Nurse plays an important role in the wellbeing of the students, staff and faculty of AUW. They are vital to the functions of the Health and Wellness Center (HWC) of AUW. They are responsible for managing the assessment, evaluation, maintenance, and improvement of the health care services for the students and AUW community. They will also help in promoting the prevention of illness and disability as well as early detection and correction of health problems. The incumbent works cooperatively with the other nursing staff, counseling staff and the consultant doctors in fulfilling the responsibilities.

Clinic Duty Schedule:
Staff nurses work in rotation in different shifts as mentioned below:
• Shift 1: 9:00am – 4:00pm
• Shift 2: 3:00pm – 10:00pm
• Shift 3: 9:30pm – 9:00am
Weekends: 9:00 am – 9:00pm clinic duty, 24 hours on-call

Holidays: 9:00am – 9:00pm clinic duty, 24 hours on-call

Main Responsibilities of the Job:
Responsibilities of the staff nurse include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing confidential health advice to individual student
    Assessing student’s health condition who visits HWC and arranging doctor’s appointment if necessary, or if appropriate, administer them non-prescription drugs (OTC)
  • Visiting students in their room if they are too sick to come into HWC and making their assessments
  • Accompanying students for out of campus medical appointments/diagnostics and staying overnight at hospital, if required
  • Helping in preparing health care plans for students with disabilities and/or chronic/long-term health conditions
  • Responding to medical emergencies
  • Reporting and isolating students with contagious diseases as per guidelines
  • Preparing plans for managing and controlling any outbreak/onset of infectious diseases
  • Preparing and maintaining students’ health records
  • Documenting the nursing consultation, assessment, and provided medical care
  • Maintaining medicine inventory to support quarterly auditing
  • Conducting workshops/education sessions regarding sexual and reproductive health and providing contraception counselling
  •  Coordinating and participating in meetings/events/activities to promote better health care and health care education
  • Participating in trainings for the Student Health Assistant (SHA) employees
  • Mentoring SHAs in conducting clinical and health care education/promotion activities
  • Participating in monthly education sessions for nursing staff
  • Conducting annual vaccination program and keeping vaccination record through CoVerified App
  • Screening new-entry students’ medical forms
  • Coordinating and participating in Annual Student Physical Examination
  • Participating in HWC team meetings as required
  • Assisting superintendent of nurse in overseeing logistics and preparing curriculum of trainings
  • Monitoring the safe storage of all medicines as per requirement
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the medical equipment and instruments as per requirement
  • Researching new or unfamiliar nursing/health topics of relevance and sharing the findings with HWC team to support and promote evidence-based nursing practice

COVID Specific Duties:

  • Maintaining record of COVID vaccination through CoVerified App
  • Maintaining database of the students and identifying contacts of symptomatic/positive students through CoVerified App
  • Reporting any onset of COVID symptoms
  • Isolating the students with symptoms and positive test results as per guidelines
  • Assisting in monthly COVID tests program of all the students
  • Supplying medical oxygen and operating oxygen concentrators, if required

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc.)/Diploma in Nursing (Advanced Certificate Course in Infection Control Nursing will be added as an advantage)
  • Minimum 2 years work experience in nursing
  • Specific and Scientific knowledge regarding Isolation and quarantine
  • Practical demonstration of the use of oxygen concentrators
  • Proper knowledge and experience of careful and safe patient transportation
  • Experience in ICU/CCU/Cardiac OT/Cath Lab will be preferred
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, set priorities, and work both independently and in a team environment.

  • Fluency in English (both spoken and written)
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills; must be able to interact and communicate effectively not only with culturally diverse patients, but also with individuals at all levels of the institution, and with a high level of cultural sensitivity
