Staff Nurse

Asian University for Women (AUW) is the first of its kind- a fully independent regional institution dedicated to women’s education and leadership development. AUW started its’ journey in 2008 with 130 students from six countries of South Asia. Currently, AUW has students from 19 different countries with age range between 18-35 years. Overview of the Job:

Staff Nurse plays an important role in the wellbeing of the students, staff and faculty of AUW. They are vital to the functions of the Health and Wellness Center (HWC) of AUW. They are responsible for managing the assessment, evaluation, maintenance, and improvement of the health care services for the students and AUW community. They will also help in promoting the prevention of illness and disability as well as early detection and correction of health problems. The incumbent works cooperatively with the other nursing staff, counseling staff and the consultant doctors in fulfilling the responsibilities.

Clinic Duty Schedule:

Staff nurses work in rotation in different shifts as mentioned below:

  • Weekdays
  • Shift 1: 9:00am – 4:00pm
  • Shift 2: 3:00pm – 10:00pm
  • Shift 3: 9:30pm – 9:00am
  • Weekends: 9:00 am – 9:00pm clinic duty, 24 hours on-call
  • Holidays: 9:00am – 9:00pm clinic duty, 24 hours on-call

Main Responsibilities of the Job:

Responsibilities of the staff nurse include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing confidential health advice to individual student.
  • Assessing student’s health condition who visits HWC and arranging doctor’s appointment if necessary, or if appropriate, administer them non-prescription drugs (OTC).
  • Visiting students in their room if they are too sick to come into HWC and making their assessments.
  • Accompanying students for out of campus medical appointments/diagnostics and staying overnight at hospital, if required.
  • Helping in preparing health care plans for students with disabilities and/or chronic/long-term health conditions.
  • Responding to medical emergencies.
  • Reporting and isolating students with contagious diseases as per guidelines.
  • Preparing plans for managing and controlling any outbreak/onset of infectious diseases.
  • Preparing and maintaining students’ health records.
  • Documenting the nursing consultation, assessment, and provided medical care
  • Maintaining medicine inventory to support quarterly auditing
  • Conducting workshops/education sessions regarding sexual and reproductive health and providing contraception counselling
  • Coordinating and participating in meetings/events/activities to promote better health care and health care education
  • Participating in trainings for the Student Health Assistant (SHA) employees
  • Mentoring SHAs in conducting clinical and health care education/promotion activities
  • Participating in monthly education sessions for nursing staff
  • Conducting annual vaccination program and keeping vaccination record through Co-verified App*
  • Screening new-entry students’ medical forms
  • Coordinating and participating in Annual Student Physical Examination
  • Participating in HWC team meetings as required
  • Assisting superintendent of nurse in overseeing logistics and preparing curriculum of trainings
  • Monitoring the safe storage of all medicines as per requirement
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the medical equipment and instruments as per requirement
  • Researching new or unfamiliar nursing/health topics of relevance and sharing the findings with
  • HWC team to support and promote evidence-based nursing practice

They must treat the students from different background, ethnicity and, nationality equally and with dignity. They would also maintain high standards of attendance and punctuality. Other Requirements:

– Bachelors in nursing.

Must be fluent in English.

– Minimum 2 years’ experience.

– Only Female candidates are allowed to apply.

– Shared housing is available for the candidates outside of Chittagong.

Salary: Attractive.
