Movie night is fast approaching | support AUW with the Carbine Club of Tokyo | SAVE THE DATE for our 2027 annual benefit
Dear friends of AUW,
Early November brings two great reasons to get together and to support Asian University for Women.
🎬 AUW Movie Night: a special screening of Lost Land
Lost Land is the moving story of two Rohingya children who are separated from their family on a dangerous journey from a refugee camp to Malaysia. It’s directed by Akio Fujimoto and premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Prize in the Orizzonti section.
📅 Monday, November 2, 2026 · 6:30pm to 9:00pm
📍 International House of Japan, 5-11-16 Roppongi, Minato-ku
🎟️ ¥5,000, which includes the screening, special remarks from the director, and a post-screening reception with light bites and drinks
AUW’s students include young women from Rohingya communities, so this film is especially close to our hearts. Proceeds support AUW scholarships and educational opportunities for women.
🏇 Melbourne Cup Luncheon with the Carbine Club of Tokyo
The very next day, AUW is proud to be one of the beneficiaries of the Carbine Club of Tokyo’s Melbourne Cup Luncheon, alongside YouMeWe.
📅 Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · from 11:00am
📍 Grand Hyatt Tokyo, Roppongi
🎟️ ¥23,000 per person. Individual seats and tables of 12 are available.
Watch the race that stops Australia live, enjoy lunch with free-flowing beer, wine and soft drinks, and join the sweep and the Fashions on the Field competition.
This lunch has sold out for the past few years, and bookings close Friday 30 October at 6:00pm. The event is for adults only.
SAVE THE DATE: AUW Tokyo Annual Benefit 2027, Speakers to be announced soon!
📅 Wednesday, April 15, 2027
Please hold the evening of April 15, 2027, for our biggest night of the year. It will have a live auction, a silent auction and a raffle, and everything raised goes towards scholarships and education for AUW students. We have some incredible speakers locked in – we’ll share the details, tickets and auction highlights in the new year.
Thank you for your ongoing support for AUW. We hope to see you at one, or all, of these events.

“Numerous studies have shown that the return on a dollar is higher for educating women than for men because women are more likely to pass on education philosophy to their children and the rest of the community. My other passion is getting more women into the economy. Female economic participation is very low in Japan. In a country with a shrinking economy and population, using half that population more efficiently makes sense.”
