Residential Life Officer

 

Position: Residential Life Officer
Reports to: Manager /Asst Manager – Reslife 
Location: Chittagong (BD)

 

The Residence Life Officer (RO) is one of the most important positions in Housing and Residence Life. The RO often serves as the face and the voice of the department.

Under the direction and supervision of Head- of Residential Life, the RO is expected to assist in the development of community, encourage student initiated programming, and report inappropriate behavior. They provide support in times of emergency and personal stress. The RO is expected to serve as role models on campus, exhibit the ability to be an effective and patient listener and an excellent resource, who demonstrates ethical behavior at all times. The Residential Life Officers’ primary responsibility is to develop inter-personal relationships with each and every resident so that residents can turn to her in times of need. The Residential Life Officer serves as a mentor, advisor, and a trusted friend to dorm residents.

Due to the unique nature of the position of the RO’s, work cannot easily be translated into hours worked per day or week. The RO’s job requires both regularly scheduled responsibilities and times at which RO is available and accessible to community residents.  The Residential Life Officer will be required to stay on campus at night.

Responsibilities:

  • The Residential Life Officer is expected to perform administrative duties related to the day-to-day operations of the dormitories and Residential Life Office.
  • The work week will include mandatory daytime office hours and night time (if required). Hours may vary week to week; the schedule will be set by the supervisor with your input.
  • Assist students with conflict mitigation and emotional issues; Submit verbal or written student behavioral and/or health concerns/issues as indicated or requested; notify the Director of Residence Life and/or Dean of Students of campus incidents.
  • Assist Residential Life staff with creating a fun and livable environment by providing excellent customer service skills.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the student housing facility and student units; identify problem areas, and enlist means to correct. Report, track and follow up on maintenance issues with appropriate building managers, maintenance and cleaning staff etc. Coordinate with Facilities and Housekeeping to ensure cleanliness and operation of all residence hall areas.
  • Work as part of the Student Affairs team to provide excellent student facilities, services, and resources.
  • Lead the Cleanliness Campaign with students in the AUW campus and Study corner. The purpose of the campaign is to be aware of the students to maintain personal hygiene as well cleanliness of the dorms and entire study corner.
  • Maintain the record of stationary, remotes, musical instrument, couch, pillows, TV & others as assigned.
  • Monitor the safety issues and report to the concerned person immediately if anything unusual is noticed.
  • Perform administrative duties related to day-to-day operations of the study center, dormitories, and Residential Life as assigned.
  • Submit verbal or written student behavioral and/or health concerns/issues as indicated or requested.
  • Report maintenance and cleaning issues to the concerned department.
  • To respond to emergencies appropriately, according to the University Safety & Security procedures; assist with fire alarm evacuations if required.
  • Coordinate the nightly check-in on a regular basis; Refrain from activities (both prior to and during duty) that would impair their ability to respond in-person quickly and appropriately to a situation while on duty.
  • Shall notify Residence Life and on-campus staff of nights when they will not be present on campus or emergencies.
  • Maintain residence in student housing as assigned to provide on-site coverage for evenings, nights and weekends.
  • Shall not be away from campus more than one (1) weekend a month.
  • Any other task given by the management.

 

On-call duty expectations/ Responsibilities for operational services:

To respond to emergencies appropriately, according to the University Safety & Security procedures; ensure student awareness of fire and other safety regulations. Assist with fire alarm evacuations.

Coordinate the physical nightly check-in 2 to 3 times per week and database report every night; Refrain from activities (both prior to and during duty) that would impair their ability to respond in-person quickly and appropriately to a situation while on duty.

  • Minimum Graduate from reputed University.
  • At least 2-3 years’ experience in similar field.
  • Fluency in English and Bengali, both speaking & writing is must.
  • Good IT knowledge.
  • Good interpersonal & Communication skill.
