Music Director

Position: Music Director
Reports to: Deputy Dean of Students
Type of Position: Contractual

 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated music director to provide musical guidance and direction to the AUW student music choir. The Music Director’s responsibilities include identifying a talented a group of students to be part of the AUW music choir, teaching voice control techniques to choir members, and managing the choir’s annual budget. The Music Director should also be able to work with various accompanists to enhance musical pieces as needed.

Main Responsibilities of the Job:

Responsibilities of Music Director staff include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify talented, passionate and motivated students for the choir.
  • Conducting auditions to identify and select suitable choir members which represents the diversity on AUW Campus
  • Scheduling rehearsal, performances in consultation with the Academic registry department
  • Deciding on appropriate musical pieces for the choir to perform based on the venue and occasion.
  • Scheduling choir rehearsals and ensuring that choir members attend rehearsals regularly.
  • Collaboration and identifying events for AUW music performances
  • Providing the necessary guidance and direction during music rehearsals to assist choir members in achieving the correct tone, pitch, rhythm, tempo, and harmony.
  • Directing choir members during musical performances to ensure that the desired sound is achieved.
  • Creating suitable music formations for rehearsals and performances.
  • Upholding and promoting AUW’s mission of promoters of intercultural understanding through music on campus
  • Coordinating with various departments as may be required
  • Any other duties as may be assigned

Other Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in music or related subject
  • Experience of managing a music program for a minimum of three years
  • Sound musical knowledge.
  • The ability to interpret and adapt to various styles of music.
  • Strong leadership and listening skills.
  • Excellent English communication skills both verbal and written
  • Knowledge of some playing of some musical instruments like Piano, guitar, keyboard will be preferred
  • Conversant with MS Office, working on email and other related software and applications
  • The candidate must be based in Chittagong
