On October 23, Goldman Sachs presented a virtual guest lecture exclusively for AUW students. The event was hosted by the firm’s Asia Pacific Female Managing Directors Network (FMDN), which aims to enhance connectivity between senior management, support future female leaders, and promote female leadership in the region.
The “Women in Finance” lecture was attended by over 40 selected AUW undergraduates and was an opportunity to learn more about working in this industry, from leading women within Goldman Sachs. The professional mentors included Kathy Matsui (Vice Chair of Goldman Sachs Japan, Chief Japan Equity Strategist) plus 20 distinguished Managing Directors and Vice Presidents from across Asia.
Ms. Matsui, who also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the AUW Support Foundation, warmly opened the seminar, “I am continuously impressed by your performance and dedication, especially during this challenging time. Despite the fact that many AUW students live in areas where internet connectivity cannot be taken for granted, they still secured a near 100% graduation rate!”
Attendees split into smaller groups for private mentoring sessions, which created a space for networking where students could ask questions and allowed the professionals to tailor their advice more personally. Discussions ranged from career advice, female leadership, personal experiences and life at Goldman Sachs.
The students left with a deeper understanding of the finance sector as well as a confidence boost from the inspiring mentors.
Manisha Bidari (UG3) “I have learnt to be confident, believe in yourself before others do and know your worth.”
