CHITTAGONG, Bangladesh, 7 September 2026 – Asian University for Women (AUW) has signed a contract with Charuta Private Limited, a Dhaka-based engineering and interior fit-out contractor, covering the design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning and handover of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems and interior finishing works for AUW’s Science and Technology Center on a 100-acre site.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Sangita Rayamajhi, Vice Chancellor of Asian University for Women, and Jamal Ahmed Sufi, Managing Director of Charuta Private Limited, marking an important step in strengthening and enhancing the university’s infrastructure.

Charuta Private Limited was selected through an open, competitive tendering process, prevailing among ten bidders, in keeping with AUW’s commitment to integrity and transparency in supplier selection.

It will house AUW’s Science and Technology laboratories, a world-class library and extensive classrooms and workshop spaces.

Under the agreement, Charuta Private Limited will undertake a comprehensive range of infrastructure and finishing works, including internal and external electrical systems, plumbing and sanitary works, metal works, and interior finishing, with a total contract value of BDT 759.70 million, exclusive of VAT. The building will be commissioned for student and faculty use in August 2027. Among other programs, it will house a state-of-the-art laboratory for AUW’s chemical and environmental engineering program, designed in collaboration with faculty from Imperial College London. The project is expected to contribute to the continued development of AUW’s campus facilities and support the university’s commitment to providing a high-quality environment for its students, faculty, and wider community.

As the new building comes into commission in August 2027, AUW will launch the next phase of campus development designed by internationally renowned architect Renzo Piano. In addition to requisite infrastructure development, the forthcoming phase is planned to build out two additional academic and student services buildings and student housing for 1,800 students and 90 faculty members.

“This agreement with Charuta Private Limited brings AUW a significant step closer to realizing a landmark academic building that will embody our commitment to excellence in teaching, learning, and research. With world-class laboratories, a modern library, and state-of-the-art classrooms, this new space will be a vibrant home for our students and faculty. We look forward to opening its doors in August 2027.”

— Dr. Sangita Rayamajhi, Vice Chancellor, Asian University for Women

“We’re honored that AUW’s trust in Charuta will help shape a space that empowers generations of women leaders.”

— Jamal Ahmed Sufi, Managing Director, Charuta Private Limited
