Our Vision
At the Asian University for Women (AUW), we believe that mental wellness is not simply the reduction of distress, but the foundation for resilience, confidence, and flourishing. The Mental Wellness Team is dedicated to ensuring that every student feels supported, heard, and empowered to thrive — both academically and personally.
Who We Are
The Mental Wellness Team is a multidisciplinary group of professionals and student leaders who work together to build a campus-wide culture of care. The team includes:
- Director of Wellness
- Psychiatrist
- Clinical Psychologist
- Counseling Psychologist
- Sexual & Reproductive Health (SRH) Coordinator
- Goodlife Center (GLC) Coordinator
- Officer
Together, they combine clinical expertise, counseling support, and programmatic leadership to provide comprehensive wellness services to AUW students.
Peer Support: Wellness Ambassadors
At the heart of AUW’s wellness model is the Wellness Ambassador program. Currently, 260 Wellness Ambassadors are trained to serve as peer supporters across the university — roughly one for every ten students. They act as trusted points of contact, offering guidance, sharing resources, and connecting peers with professional help when needed. This network ensures that support is always within reach.
One-on-One Care
Students have access to confidential one-on-one sessions with psychiatrists and psychologists. These provide a safe, private space to address personal challenges, receive counseling, and develop coping strategies tailored to individual needs.
Wellness Spaces: The Goodlife Center
The Goodlife Center (GLC) is AUW’s hub for rest, renewal, and connection. It features:
- A nap room for restorative breaks
- A tea corner and book nook for relaxation
- Indoor games for recreation
- An open terrace for meditation, yoga, and Zumba
The GLC is a welcoming refuge where students can take a pause, engage in wellness activities, and strengthen their sense of balance.
Programs & Activities
The Mental Wellness Team organizes a wide range of programs to promote holistic well-being, including:
- Art Expression Therapy workshops
- Meditation and yoga sessions
- Stress management and resilience-building events
- Community wellness campaigns
These activities ensure students have regular, accessible opportunities to care for their mental health and strengthen community connections.
Student Distress Triage Protocol
The team has developed the AUW Student Distress Triage Protocol, a structured guide that helps identify and respond to varying levels of student distress — from mild difficulties to urgent emergencies. This ensures consistent, compassionate, and timely support across the university community.
Faculty Training: Trauma-Informed Pedagogy
Recognizing that student well-being is deeply connected to classroom environments, the Mental Wellness Team trains AUW faculty and teaching fellows in trauma-informed pedagogy. This equips educators to create inclusive, safe, and supportive learning spaces, especially vital for AUW’s diverse student body, which includes young women from conflict-affected and displaced backgrounds.
Partnerships & Collaborations
The team extends its impact through partnerships. A key collaboration is the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative (WPDI), which expands opportunities for students in peacebuilding, resilience training, and leadership development.
