The Psychiatrist will provide comprehensive mental health care to students, faculty, and staff at Asian University for Women (AUW), founded in 2008, currently has around 1900 students from 18 countries across pre-university, undergraduate, and master’s programs. The role includes diagnosing and treating psychiatric disorders, prescribing and managing medication, collaborating with psychologists and counselors, and promoting mental well-being across the university community. The Psychiatrist will also support awareness programs and crisis intervention efforts in alignment with AUW’s mission of nurturing holistic development in a diverse, multicultural environment.
Main Responsibilities of the Job:
As a senior member of the Wellness Team, the Psychiatrist will play a central role in building and delivering comprehensive mental health care for AUW students. Her key responsibilities in the field of Clinical Care, Collaboration & Consultation, Preventive & Community Work and Administrative & Institutional Responsibilities includes following:
Clinical Care
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments of students and staff.
- Provide evidence-based treatment for mental health conditions, including mood disorders, anxiety, psychosis, trauma-related disorders, and substance use disorders.
- Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications as necessary.
- Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records in line with professional and institutional guidelines.
- Provide emergency psychiatric intervention and crisis management support.
Collaboration & Consultation
- Work closely with psychologists, counselors, medical officers, and wellness staff to deliver integrated care.
- Consult with faculty and administrative staff regarding student mental health concerns (while maintaining confidentiality).
- Refer cases to external specialists or hospitals when advanced interventions are required.
Preventive & Community Work
- Develop and participate in campus-wide mental health awareness and psychoeducation programs.
- Contribute to workshops, seminars, and training sessions for students, faculty, and staff on stress management, resilience, and well-being.
- Advise on policies and protocols related to mental health crises, suicide prevention, and substance abuse.
Administrative & Institutional Responsibilities
- Assist in shaping AUW’s mental health strategy and wellness policies.
- Contribute to periodic reports on mental health trends and service utilization at AUW.
- Ensure compliance with ethical and legal standards of psychiatric practice.
Qualifications & Experience
- Medical degree (MBBS) with specialization in Psychiatry (MD/ FCPS/DPM/FCPS or equivalent) with minimum 10 years of professional experience as a practicing psychiatrist.
- Valid registration with Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BMDC).
- Minimum 3–5 years of clinical psychiatric experience (experience with young adults or university students preferred).
- Strong diagnostic, therapeutic, and clinical decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle crises and sensitive cases with discretion.
- Experience in both pharmacological treatment and psychotherapeutic techniques desirable.
- Strong understanding of multicultural and gender-sensitive approaches to mental health
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, teamwork skills and crisis-handling skills.
- Specially pproficiency in English is required; knowledge of Rohingya or Persian is an advantage.
