Officer – Gardening

Position: Officer – Gardening
Reports to: DPD/PD
Department: Campus Construction Department
Location: Permanent Campus, Asian University of Women

The Officer – Gardening, Tree Plantation & Landscaping will be responsible for planning, developing, and maintaining the university’s green spaces, gardens, trees, and overall landscape. The role ensures an eco-friendly and aesthetically pleasing campus environment, while promoting sustainability, biodiversity, and student/community engagement in environmental initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Gardening & Landscaping
  • Develop and maintain gardens, lawns, flowerbeds, and ornamental plants across the campus.
  • Supervise landscaping works, including selection and planting of appropriate species.
  • Ensure timely trimming, pruning, watering, fertilizing, and pest control of plants.
  • Coordinate seasonal plantation and beautification programs in line with the university’s calendar of events.
  • Implement modern landscaping techniques and sustainable practices (e.g., water-efficient irrigation, composting, native plants).
  1. Tree Plantation & Environmental Sustainability
  • Develop and execute annual tree plantation plans, ensuring biodiversity and ecological balance.
  • Maintain records of existing trees and new plantations, ensuring proper care and survival.
  • Promote green initiatives such as vertical gardens, rooftop gardening, and medicinal plant cultivation.
  • Collaborate with academic departments, student clubs, and external stakeholders for environmental awareness campaigns.
  1. Operations & Supervision
  • Supervise gardeners, nursery staff, and landscape workers to ensure quality and timely execution of tasks.
  • Monitor and maintain gardening equipment, tools, and irrigation systems.
  • Prepare and manage budgets for plantation and landscaping projects.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • General knowledge about Ms word, excel etc.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma in Horticulture, Botany, Agriculture, Forestry, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in gardening, landscaping, or plantation management (preferably in large institutions/estates).
  • Knowledge of local plant species, soil management, pest control, and sustainable horticulture practices.
  • Strong supervisory, planning, and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to work in hilly terrain.
