Recognizing the urgent need for climate resilience and environmental sustainability, AUW is launching the Program on Environmental Engineering to equip future leaders with the technical expertise and problem-solving skills necessary to address global environmental challenges. As part of this initiative, AUW has also established the Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Health, which serves as a hub for research, policy engagement, and community-driven climate solutions. The Centre integrates academic expertise with real-world environmental challenges, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to develop sustainable strategies for climate adaptation and public health resilience. It will play a pivotal role in supporting the Environmental Engineering program through research opportunities, partnerships, and practical training.
About the Position
AUW invites applications for full-time faculty positions in Environmental Engineering. The position is open to scholars with a background in Environmental Engineering, Resource Management (e.g. water), Air Quality, Atmospheric sciences, Climate Change Science, Adaptation, Resilience, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Sustainable Development and Environmental Policy
Candidates will contribute to the design and delivery of courses, engage in high-impact research, and mentor students, while actively participating in academic service and program development aligned with AUW’s mission of educating future leaders for a sustainable world.
Expected to Teach
Candidates are expected to teach a range of interdisciplinary undergraduate and elective courses aligned with their area of expertise. Depending on their specialization, they may teach courses such as Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Fluid Mechanics, Water Pollution Treatment and Resource Recovery, Environmental Chemistry and Pollution Control, Atmospheric Chemistry, Climate Modelling, Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Adaptation, Environmental Justice and Policy, as well as courses on AI and Data Science applications in environmental systems.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop programs and the course curriculum
- Deliver lectures, conduct tutorials, and quizzes, and prepare assignments on the assigned courses.
- Teach 24 credits per academic year.
- Serve as an academic advisor and mentor to students.
- Supervise students in developing and implementing senior thesis projects, including guiding them in data analysis, thesis writing, and presentation of findings
- Attract research funding and engage in research
- Provide leadership and service on academic committees and academic initiatives
- Maintain office hours for students
- Support building the professional network of the university to help gain more internships and work opportunities for students.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Climate Science, Sustainability Science or related science and engineering field from a recognized university
- Outstanding record of research accomplishments and a strong dedication to service, mentoring, graduate teaching, attracting external funding, and making an impact in multidisciplinary research
- A strong understanding of inclusivity and diversity in the classroom and beyond
- Candidates applying for the Assistant Professor position should demonstrate a strong aptitude for conducting high-impact research.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience with or understanding of liberal arts education
- Interest or experience in working in Asia and/or at women-only institutions
- Practical experience in environmental technologies, climate resilience, or data-driven environmental systems
- Commitment to empowering women in STEM and underrepresented communities
- Ability and willingness to teach students from diverse background and whose native language is not English
Contract & Benefits
Duration: 3 years, renewable based on the satisfactory performance
Compensation: According to AUW policy
Additional Benefits: Semi-furnished shared accommodation for outstation candidates, medical allowance
