Welcoming Dr. Italo Simonelli to the Department of Applied Math and Data Science

Chittagong, Bangladesh — March 3, 2026 — We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Italo Simonelli as Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Math and Data Science, effective May 12, 2026.

Dr. Simonelli is a distinguished mathematician who earned his Ph.D. from Temple University, where he studied under the renowned Professor Janos Galambos. He joins us with an extensive international portfolio, having held faculty positions at Duke Kunshan University, McDaniel College, and East Texas A&M University, and an instructor position at Temple University.

His research is characterized by its breadth and depth across several key pillars of mathematical science:

  • Probability & Combinatorics: His work focuses on random binary matrices, card shuffling, matroids, and variations of the sunflower problem.
  • Statistics: He applies advanced number theory to the study of extremes.
  • Game Theory: He utilizes graph structures to investigate the existence and configuration of Nash equilibria in multi-player scenarios.

Beyond his research, Dr. Simonelli is a dedicated educator with a track record of fostering academic growth in his students. We look forward to the mentorship and world-class expertise he will bring to our classrooms.
