AUW is proud to announce that it is now offering a comprehensive, two-year graduate program in Master of Arts in Education (MA in Education).
Program Overview:
The Asian University for Women’s Masters of Arts in Education is a two years comprehensive and interdisciplinary program that aims to create a group of educational leaders, instructors, experts, and policymakers dedicated to bringing positive change through education. This program is central to AUW’s Women Teaching Women, Women Learning from Women (WTW-WLW) initiative, dedicated to giving students a balanced set of theoretical and analytical skills that they can apply to the many communities around the world that are affected by educational inequity. In this hybrid learning model, renowned Professors from the following universities: Johns Hopkins University, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Stanford University and California State University offer classes via Zoom, along with on-the-ground Teaching Fellows who facilitate discussions.
Students engage in a comprehensive curriculum employing theoretical models, empirical data, and analytical tools to examine problems within the domain of education. The degree is conferred upon students who have demonstrated expertise in education scholarship through research, internships, and a thesis, preparing them for PhD programs at top universities and impactful roles in renowned organizations and international institutes advancing education and equality.

MA in Education Program Curriculum Description
Application Requirements:
Along with your completed application form, the following are the requirements to apply:
- Bachelor’s Degree: Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree (minimum 3 years with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00) in any academic discipline or should be at least in their final year of study at the time of the application.
- Statement of Purpose: Within 500 words (approximately 4000 characters) Please mention how and why you think this graduate program in Education fits with your future goals, as well as why you have chosen this program over other education programs and why you feel you would be a good fit for this program.
- Essay: To assess your critical thinking and writing skills, we expect you to write a comprehensive essay based on the prompts given on the application portal. Within 500–700 words, demonstrate your passion for the education field, writing skills and analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Letters of Recommendation: As part of the application process, you have to submit at least two letters of recommendation from your professor and/or work supervisor. Please note that one of the recommendations must be academic, and another one can be professional. Academic recommendation letters are highly encouraged. Once you provide details about your referees on the portal, your respective referees will receive a link via email to submit the letters on your behalf. The recommendation letters must be submitted by the deadline for the application.
- Proof of English Proficiency: As part of the application, you must submit proof of your English language proficiency to the university to assess your ability to keep up with graduate-level coursework. Applicants may submit documentation showing any of the following:
- IELTS Score of a minimum of 6.5 (result must not be older than two years).
- TOEFL Score of a minimum of 86 (Internet-based; not older than two years at the time of application).
- In the absence of the above language proficiency certificate, the institution will require shortlisted candidates to take an in-house English Language Testing exam to qualify.

1. What is the duration of the program?
The MA in Education program is a two years masters program.
2. What is the application deadline for this year?
The deadline for application for the 2027 intake is 31st August, 2026.
3. How many intakes are there for the MA in Education program?
We have one intake yearly. The classes for the new cohort start in January of next year for which this intake for this year is ongoing. Usually the intake starts in March every year and this year the deadline for intake is 31st August 2026.
4. Does this program have application fees?
No, there is no application fee to apply for the MA in Education program.
5. Does this program offer a full scholarship?
We offer both merit-based scholarships and need-based scholarships/financial aid; however, applicants may receive only one type of scholarship.

- Need-based Scholarships (Financial Aid): Financial aid is awarded only after a thorough assessment of the applicant’s financial documents following the interview. Eligible students may receive up to 100% financial aid. While financial need is the primary criterion, a strong overall application is an added advantage.
6. What are the minimum academic requirements?
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree of any discipline and a minimum CGPA of 3 (out of 4-point scale) to apply for our MA in Education program. However, we do consider applicants with lower CGPA if additional parts of your application such as: SOP, Essay, IELTS/TOEFL score,work experience is deemed exceptional.
7. What documents are required to apply for the MA in Education Graduate Program?

8. Are applicants from non-education backgrounds eligible?
Yes, we accept applications from multidisciplinary backgrounds.
9. Can final-year undergraduate students apply?
We require transcripts and certificate of your Bachelors degree as part of the program requirements. However, we can take into consideration that your transcript and certificate be uploaded within December as our academic year starts from January.
10. Do you accept students with gap year or study gap?
Yes we do, depending on valid reasons.
11. My bachelor’s grading system does not use a 4-point grading scale. How do I enter my grade point average in the online application?
We require your cumulative grade point average as per our admission criteria. Please convert your CGPA to a 4.0 scale if it is reported on a different scale.
12. Is this program about Teaching?
Master of Arts in Education is not a Masters in Education or M.Ed program. Masters of Arts in Education is a two years comprehensive and interdisciplinary program that aims to create a group of educational leaders, instructors, experts, and policymakers dedicated to bringing positive change through education.
13. Does this program provide any Teaching Certification?
No this program is not a Teaching Certification program. This program prepares students to have a career in the Education sector regardless of teaching.
14. What is a hybrid model and how does it work?
A hybrid model of teaching is where esteemed professors from renowned universities join via Zoom and there are Teaching Fellows on-ground to moderate the classes. Students are present in person as well so that the class discussions run smoothly.
15. Are all professors taking classes via online?
Faculty members from partner universities conduct lectures over Zoom, and AUW students participate through advanced smart classrooms, with support from dedicated Teaching Fellows who offer guidance and facilitate live interactions. These Teaching Fellows also lead separate group discussions in person to enhance the learning experience alongside the lectures provided by professors. Certain technical courses are taught by our experienced in-house professors meaning that they take in-person classes throughout the semester.
16. Can the students join classes online?
Students must be present in class in-person.
17. What kind of opportunities are available in this program?
We offer guaranteed internships with local and international organizations. Students get to be part of exciting ongoing projects at the MA in Education program as well.
18. What is the selection process?
The selection process is as follows:
- Application Review
- Shorlisting
- Interview
- On-spot writing assessment (in case of no IELTS/TOEFL score)
- Final Decision
Students with no IELTS/TOEFL score receive a conditional offer letter and need to pass an in-house English proficiency test.
19. Do we need to have an IELTS/TOEFL score for applying to this program?
- So that they get a better chance of securing a higher percentage of merit based scholarships.
- You do not have to sit for an on spot writing test during your interview.
We offer in-house English preparatory tests too, in case of applicants who do not have an IELTS/TOEFL score.
20. What happens after this degree?
We offer career placement help. Our graduates secure prestigious scholarships like Erasmus Mundus and Chevening scholarships to go to higher education opportunities like Masters and PhDs.
