Dear AUW Community

We are distressed to report that Bangladesh has seen a dramatic rise in political tensions which has resulted in total cut-off of internet services as well as imposition of military-enforced curfews.  According to the media reports, hundreds of lives, especially of the protesting young people have been lost.  Significant damage to public assets has also taken place.  The situation is seemingly improving as the internet services are coming back and the curfew-restricted hours are being relaxed.  We are preparing, as in every year, to welcome students from all across the region.  This year we are excited to be joined by 20 Teaching Fellows who are graduates  from top US/UK colleges and universities who are already aiding with the teaching in our pre-undergraduate program.

We appreciate the outpouring of concerns from AUW friends.  AUW has increased security vigilance and all members of our community remain safe.  Classes have resumed after two days of hiatus.

We hope that the present political crisis will soon recede and peace and justice will be firmly established in this land that has already seen so much bloodshed and terror over the years.

We thank you for your support, especially now  when it is most needed.

Sincerely,

Kamal Ahmad
