Providing financial aid for our incoming students is a top priority. Scholarship funding would allow the University to accomplish its goal of drawing the next generation of talented leaders from across geographic, cultural, and economic spectrums, including from sectors of the population that have been historically marginalized. This commitment to admission based solely on merit will allow the University to prove that talented women from even the most disadvantaged backgrounds thrive when given access to higher education. Scholarship funding will have a transformative, life altering impact on the lives of students who could not otherwise afford a university education.
Scholarship funding is essential to achieving social and economic progress because the public benefits of higher education can be maximized by targeting those who are least likely to enrol in university without a subsidy. This is precisely what the structure of AUW is designed to undertake, with half the enrolment being drawn specifically from those with less privileged backgrounds who would be least likely to achieve such an education on their own, while providing the highest quality of education to best achieve the potential benefits of higher education.
