DEAN OF STUDENTS
The Asian University for Women seeks a Dean of Students who will develop and lead the Office of Student Life. This position provides strategic management and supervision of the following offices: Office of Students Affairs, Office of Residential Life, and Office of Career Services. This person will be the primary advocate for students and help students navigate the services offered by the University. This position will play a major role in developing and implementing policies on campus that relate to university administration.
This position is based in Chittagong, Bangladesh. It provides an opportunity for an individual with superior strategic thinking, problem-solving, communication, and relationship-building skills to play a critical role in advancing of the mission of the Asian University for Women. This position requires a high level of attention to confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, multicultural educational environment.
The essential duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Student Affairs
- Enable Student Affairs staff, students, and other members of the University community to envision ways to extend learning beyond the classroom through student organizations and community involvement
- Equip and advise Student Affairs staff to develop and implement policies and procedures related to student activities; oversee production of Student and Parent Handbooks and other documents; organize campus-wide events such as student arrivals and departures, Student Orientation, and Commencement
- Work with Student Affairs, Office of Recruitment and Admissions, Registrar’s office to administer internal and external scholarships
Residential Life and Dining
- Ensure and enhance the quality of student experiences in their residential spaces
- Work collaboratively with Resident Advisors, students, and relevant stakeholders to develop and implement dorm regulations, policies, and procedures
- Respond to student emergencies as they arise and develop appropriate action plans in collaboration with AUW’s Health and Wellness Center and any relevant departments
- Work with catering staff to ensure that students’ nutritional needs are addressed
- Work collaboratively with university administrators to address student concerns that relate to health and safety issues on campus
Career Services
- Develop and implement career services programs with plans for evaluation of the outcomes
- Identify, recruit, and maintain an employer base (i.e., businesses, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, and public agencies) for internship and employment opportunities
- Identify and guide students in graduate school admissions
- Work closely with the Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Teaching and Learning Center staff to implement an effective Internship Program and Service Learning Program
University Administration
- Work with other senior staff to develop protocol addressing emerging issues that confront the University
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to develop and implement university policies related to student conduct and due process, including disciplinary action
- Collaborate with university administrators and resident counselor to facilitate the resolution of student-related grievances
- Oversee Student Affairs, Residential Life, and Career Services staff and provide overall management of budget and program assessment
- Keep senior staff appraised of significant developments, issues, and needs related to student life
- Perform other duties as designated by the Vice Chancellor

CREATIVE DIRECTOR FOR THE ARTS
The Asian University for Women (AUW) is a start-up initiative in Chittagong, Bangladesh, with the mission to prepare women of high ability and potential to meet society’s challenges and effect positive change through an innovative, rigorous curriculum that encompasses the liberal arts and sciences at the undergraduate level; professional training in fields such as computer science, environmental engineering and management at the graduate level; and develops thoughtful and ethical leaders. The University’s first pre-undergraduate class, comprised of students from six Asian countries, graduated this July, while the first undergraduate class will commence in August 2009. The University currently operates in rented facilities while construction of the first academic building on its permanent site is expected to start in January 2010. The University aspires to be the region's center of excellence for education and leadership development for women from many nations, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
AUW invites applications for the position of Creative Director for the Arts, who will be responsible for overseeing student activities in performing arts (music, dance, and drama), and other creative and visual arts. The Creative Director should herself be an accomplished artist with experience coaching young women of various skill levels. Applicants must be fluent in English and will ideally have knowledge of the artistic traditions of the region and ideas on innovative ways to incorporate performing arts into the University’s broader curriculum and mission. Art is not a required course of study, but AUW hopes to offer a broad range of arts electives, and appreciation of, and participation in, arts, particularly performing arts, is viewed as a critical component of the University’s objective of producing well rounded students and as a tool for students to understand, and interact with, classmates from different backgrounds. DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor and Provost of the Asian University for Women in Chittagong, Bangladesh and the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Asian University for Women Support Foundation in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, the Director of Finance works closely with all Senior Managers, the Executive Committee, the Board of Trustees, the Chief Administration Officer, the Manager of Accounts and the Finance Officer in coordinating the financial activities of the Asian University for Women. The chief function of the position is financial oversight, including all financial management, investment activities, financial reporting, internal and external audit, Human Resource management and risk analysis.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Function as Financial Controller whose activities are Cash Management,
Revenue Recognition, Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable,
International Accounting and Financial Reporting.
- Manage the Manager of
Accounts and the Finance Officer along with all finance activities in
Chittagong.
- Develop and implement financial policy for the Asian University for Women coordinating with the Asian University for Women Support Foundation’s own senior financial staff and systems.
- Develop finance and accounting control systems to manage the affairs of the University.
- Research, identify, recommend, purchase and install a General Ledger system with Accounts Payable, Fixed Asset and Construction Accounting Systems included.
- Querying and analyzing financial data to forecast future revenue and expense streams; initial annual budget processes.
- Prepare budget status and Board-restricted fund reports and variance analyses for the Audit Committee, the Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees.
- Support Senior Management, the Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees with all fiscal matters, and attend meetings in a consultative capacity.
- Prepare Payroll and monthly Consulting Fees.
- Working with the Development staff, prepare grant budgets and financial reports to donors. Maintain familiarity with pre-grant award contracts, and monitoring post-award expenditures.
- Participate in development of Human Resource policies and practices to satisfy local cultural needs for hiring, benefits and payroll.
- Risk management including; insurance, contract review, government and legal oversight and operational activities.
Required Education, Experience and Skills:
Master’s level degree in finance or accounting and Chartered Accountancy qualifications or its international equivalent is preferred, plus seven years of related work experience as Controller/Chief Financial Office for educational institution with an annual budget of at least $7 million+. Candidate must have strong financial, analytical, grants and contract experience, within the South Asia Region as well as demonstrated budgeting skills and solid experience in financial systems such as A/R, A/P, General Ledger, Charts of Account and Reconciliation. The ability to work independently as well as part of a group, the ability to interact with a wide range of people internally, externally and internationally, particularly with the West and the USA are needed to succeed in this position. Excellent spoken and written English language skills are also essential.

The Asian University for Women Support Foundation (www.asian-university.org)
based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, is engaged in the planning and
development of the Asian University for Women in Chittagong, Bangladesh,
as a regional center of excellence in higher education. The Foundation
is concurrently engaged in academic planning, student and faculty recruitment,

Summary
Reporting to the President/CEO, the Director of Operations will be principally responsible for managing the administrative operations, communications, and development of the Foundation. Responsibilities
The person in this role will be responsible for, (including
but not limited to):
Administration
He/she will be responsible for the oversight of the administrative
operations of the organization including (but not limited to) managing
daily operations, creating or refining systems of operation, and directing
the Development and Communications Teams (including web-site management).
The Director of Operations will have management, recording and oversight
responsibilities in connection with funds that are raised, including working
with the Development Team to ensure that varied avenues of funding streams
are being researched and exploited, and that gift and grant data are properly
and accurately recorded, accounted for, and reconciled. Also, he/she also
will work very closely with the Development Team in connection with fundraising
campaign strategies and operations, reporting and data management.
Additional Duties
This individual will develop internal and external
communications, and serve as a resource both throughout the organization
and externally. This will include (but is not limited to):
- Managing the planning and preparation of meetings of the organization’s senior leadership team, strategy development groups, and other significant stakeholders and groups;
- Serving as AUWSF’s Recording Secretary to maintain the Foundation’s records;
- Working closely with AUWSF’s senior leadership team to implement the organization’s strategic vision;
- Developing a comprehensive Communications Plan for AUW and executing it with effectiveness;
- Managing communications with and fielding requests from some external and internal constituents;
- Drafting communications and presentations for external constituents, including letters and speeches;
- Coordinating relations with AUW’s government (Bangladesh) as well as a range of donor governments (Middle East, Europe, etc.);
- Representing AUW at meetings, events, conferences, etc.;
- Taking on tasks involved in managing the senior team and special projects as they arise.

A Master's or other advanced degree is required. A minimum of five to
seven years of work experience is required, which must include at least
3 years of supervisory experience.

The Asian University for Women seeks a highly experienced nurse to fill the position of Senior Nurse at the Holistic, Health, and Wellness Center (HHWC) of AUW. This full-time position (40 hours per week) is based in Chittagong, Bangladesh.
This position is ideal for a healthcare professional of international standard, with strong communication skills in English, and a proactive manner in providing primary health care. The Senior Nurse will report to the Deputy Director (DD) of HHWC.
About HHWC
The Holistic Health and Wellness Center at AUW is responsible for the health and well-being of the entire AUW community. This community is comprised of a large residential student population, staff, faculty, and teachers from Bangladesh and 11 other Asian countries, USA, UK, and Canada.
The HHWC clinic includes a consultation and assessment room, as well as a four-bed observation room. It is equipped for basic treatments such as IV fluids, oxygen, nebulization, wound dressings, basic medicine administration, etc. The clinic is staffed by three nurses who come from Bangladesh, the Philippines, and the USA. They work closely with the Deputy Director of the HHWC also AUW ‘s resident counselor. Counseling and psychotherapeutic support are offered to all students and staff, along with skills building and awareness raising workshops to meet a wide range of health and psycho-social needs. A local consultant doctor is also available in the clinic for student consultations. She comes during weekday afternoons for two hours, three times per week.
Primary Responsibilities
(1) Nursing Team Leader
- Fill in clinic duties when needed (in the case of illness or leave of one nurse, or if a nurse is required to stay with a student overnight at hospital)

ADMINISTRATOR OF STUDENT RECORDS AND SCHEDULE

AUW seeks an experienced Administrator of student records and schedule. The individual will lead the Office of the Administrator of student records and schedule in a rapidly growing university and address the needs engendered by significant enrollment growth. The Administrator of student records and schedule, reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, will work with the Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Director of the Access Academy to do course scheduling and registration, and maintain student academic records, enrollment reports, and compliance with academic policies. Familiarity with and an understanding of developing Asia and an appreciation of the unique challenges of building a curriculum for a new university in such a setting will bolster the incumbent's effectiveness.
Essential Duties:
- Assume leadership in the development, implementation, and supervision of student information systems and ensure integrity of the University's academic and student record keeping
- Maintain student enrollment records and transcripts, organize registration procedures, schedule classes and supervise preparation of course schedule, evaluate transfer credits, facilitate student transfers, and administer awarding of advanced placement credit
- Review course scheduling practices on an ongoing basis to ensure efficient use of the class day and academic facilities
Ensure confidentiality in the storage, maintenance, handling, and transfer of student records
- Interpret registration management practices to students, faculty, parents, and other constituencies
- Refer requests for changes in permanent records to the appropriate faculty committee and/or the Provost's Office
- Monitor developments in technology and maintain technological systems to support registration and record keeping functions
- Facilitate continuous assessment and improvement of the services of the Office of the Administrator of student records and schedule.
- Ensure compliance with academic, regulatory, and accreditation policies and requirements and collaborate with constituents to revise policies and procedure

Qualifications:
- Experience serving as a Registrar at an accredited college or university. In lieu of experience as a Registrar, candidates must have at least 5 years of management experience in an enrollment services environment (i.e. Admissions or Registrar's Office), including at least 3 years of responsibility in a leadership position
- Proven record of successful supervisory experience in a people-oriented environment
- Demonstrated understanding of the application of technology to deliver Administrator of student records and schedule services
- Proven record in working successfully with diverse populations

The Asian University for Women in Chittagong, Bangladesh, the region’s first and only university exclusively dedicated to the education and leadership development of women from throughout the region, has been established under a special charter from the Parliament of Bangladesh and with support from a global alliance of public and private funders. It currently draws students from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Iran, Palestine, among others.
AUW seeks to recruit a number of Resident Advisors (RA) to support student life and activities on its campus in Chittagong. They are required to be resident in separate (shared) staff flats within the student dormitories. Each RA develops a particular portfolio of student activities and administrative responsibilities based on her prior experience and talents in a range of extra-curricular activities, including community service, music, drama, sports, etc. We are particularly seeking RAs who may be able to plan, orchestrate, train and lead performances in music, theatre, and dance involving new productions that draw on the multiple cultures represented at AUW. We also seek experienced martial arts and other physical education instructors.
The ideal candidate will have graduated from a noted university in the last five years and have gained exposure and experience in working with young adults. Most importantly we seek candidates who are mature, responsible, have a capacity to maintain calm in times of crises, and have a keen sense of humour. Laughter is encouraged. It is a person who would be looked upon by the students and would be the frontline role model for our students from diverse communities. Each RA will be responsible for the welfare and care of approximately 50 resident students working under the supervision of a senior resident faculty.

RESIDENT PHYSICIAN

The Asian University for Women seeks a Resident Physician, who will be responsible for providing medical consultation and supervision of medical services offered at the Health, and Wellness Center (HWC) at AUW. This position is a full-time position based in Chittagong, Bangladesh. The physician will be required to work five days (8 hours each day) a week and be on call at all other times for medical emergencies only.
This position is ideal for an individual with medical expertise of an international standard, strong communication skills in English, and a proactive manner in providing medical care and consultation. The Resident Physician will extensive hospital experience in a developing country. He or she will report to the Provost and work collaboratively with the Deputy Director (DD) of HWC and the nursing team.
About HWC
The Health and Wellness Center at AUW is responsible for the health and well-being of the entire AUW community. This community is comprised of a large residential student population, staff, faculty, and teachers from Bangladesh and other Asian countries, USA, UK, and Canada.
The HWC clinic includes a consultation and assessment room, as well as a four-bed observation room. It is equipped for basic treatments such as IV fluids, oxygen, nebulization, wound dressings, basic medicine administration, etc. The clinic is staffed by two nurses who come from Bangladesh and the Philippines. They work closely with the Deputy Director of the HWC also AUW’s resident counselor. Counseling and psychotherapeutic support are offered to all students and staff, along with skills building and awareness raising workshops to meet a wide range of health and psycho-social needs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Supervise all matters related to health of students, staff and faculty in the HWC clinic in coordination with senior nurse and DD HWC
- Consultation
- Patient care: assessment, diagnosis, prescribe treatment
- Order diagnostic investigations
- Develop treatment plans and effective follow up as needed
- Refer to specialist when appropriate
- Develop care team, providing clinical supervision, facilitating the use of evidence based practise.
- Lead detailed case discussions with nursing team, supervising the management and follow-up of all cases.
- Discuss preventive and preparative measures for likely illnesses and conditions
- Facilitate on-going learning and a reflective style of service delivery among care team.
- Contribute to institutional development, and health education initiatives in collaboration with DD HWC, health team and AUW administration when required.
- Develop detailed medical protocol for on-going services, as well as for emergency response.
- Keep student affairs, Residential life, Admissions, and other departments of AUW appraised on health related issues
- Contribute to health education initiatives and the mentoring of student health assistants and volunteers
- On-call duties

- Attendance during emergencies when required for medical management and intervention
Job Requirements
- MBBS/MD degree with professional medical work experience
- Flexibility/Adaptability for on-call consultation with nurses, as well as attendance to medical emergencies
- Supervisory experience
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Good judgment, strong initiative, and detail-oriented
- Extensive hospital experience in a developing country
Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and qualities:
- Ability to provide medical care in a multicultural educational community with sensitivity to differences in presentation, understanding and expectations of medical services across diverse cultures and ages. Medical experience in Asia helpful.
- Willingness to adopt educative approach in student consultations, encouraging a sense of awareness and responsibility for ones own health.
- Ability to create links with, and make referrals to necessary local and international medical services. Familiarity with health professionals and systems in Chittagong, and generally in Bangladesh, is an added advantage.

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Overview
The Asian University for Women (www.asian-university.org) seeks a Clinical psychologist who will be responsible for providing psychological consultation and overseeing mental health services offered at the Holistic, Health, and Wellness Center (HHWC) at AUW. This is a full-time position based in Chittagong, Bangladesh.
This position is ideal for an individual with psychological expertise of an international standard, strong communication skills in English, possessing a proactive stance in providing psychological awareness, consultation and management, experience working with Asian client groups, who works with a sensitivity to and familiarity with the distinctive psychosocial issues and ethos of Asian populations and the ability to create and use culturally nuanced psycho-social interventions within a multicultural educational community.
The Clinical Psychologist will report to the Director of the HHWC and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team of the holistic health and wellness center.
About HHWC
The Holistic Health and Wellness Center at AUW is responsible for the health and well-being of the entire AUW community. This community is comprised of a growing residential student population (currently 450), staff, faculty, and teachers from Bangladesh, 12 Asian countries, USA, Canada, UK and Australia. The clinic is staffed by three nurses who come from Bangladesh, the Philippines, and the USA. They will work closely with AUW’s Clinical psychologist Counseling and psychotherapeutic support are offered to all students and staff, along with skills building and awareness raising workshops to meet a wide range of health and psycho-social needs.
Job requirements
- Satisfactory completion of an accredited Clinical Psychology program that included the study of models of psychopathology, psychometric and neuropsychological assessment, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
- Specialist post qualification training, with a minimum of 2 years experience working as a qualified clinical psychologist, with at least one year of supervised clinical training.
- Experience of psychological assessment and individual and group based treatment of clients across wide range of Asian and other cultures.
- Skills in the formulation of problems from a psychological perspective and in the implementation of specialist psychological therapies, interventions and management techniques that are appropriate for use with variety of presenting problems common in a multicultural educational community. Able to deliver established/evidenced based psychological therapy with fidelity.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) including the ability to empathically, sensitively and effectively communicate clinical and condition related information, or provide advise based on clinical assessment to clients, their families, nursing staff and professional colleagues (within AUW) when appropriate, which could sometimes be sensitive, potentially distressing contentious or challenging.
- Ability to provide teaching and training on relevant psychological topics, using a variety of multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
