6, May, 2017

May 6, 2017, Chittagong, Bangladesh – Last week, the AUW Center for Career Development and International Programs and the AUW Transmitters Club organized a successful Career and Internship Fair themed “Women Breaking Boundaries.” The event was developed in partnership with BRAC, Unilever, and MACES.

More than 200 members of the AUW community were in attendance of the event, including students, graduates, faculty, staff, and volunteers. Together, they hosted more than 50 representatives of 17 companies and graduate schools, including BRAC University, EducationUSA, GlaxoSmithKline, Sarus, and Standard Chartered Bank. Unilever formally recruited students for its Unilever Leadership Internship Program.

Nicola Jones-Crossley, Founder of AKIN ASIA, gave the keynote address before joining a distinguished panel comprised of Samrine Bokhari, Head of Research & Analysis at GrameenPhone; Rouham Manzoor, Managing Partner of MACES; and Sabbir Amin, Head of Programs at Spreeha Foundation. The panelists emphasized the value of excelling in multiple fields at once. Jones-Crossley stated, “In careers, gone are the old notions of just sticking to one career path; the working world now requires changing skills sets and creativity. Therefore, we must all be courageous and willing to try new things, experiences, or careers until we find our true calling.” The panelists also encouraged students to live according to their own passions, and to not feel limited by society’s expectations for women. “Step up and dream big. Innovate, self-direct, and remain adaptable. Maintain a strong support system to motivate you,” the panelists said.
